Policy Formulation  Children

One of the main strategic objectives of the Childhood Unit (CU) is to develop strategies and plans relevant to child priority issues in Jordan, in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental institutions, in addition to reviewing legislation that affect the child’s protection and well-being. The CU works with policy makers and concerned institutions to develop effective child-based policies, programs, and plans.

The CU attempts to achieve the abovementioned objectives through:

  • Ensuring the development of the National Plan of Action for Children (2004-2013) and monitoring implementation.
  • Following up and monitoring the implementation of the National Early Childhood Development Strategy (ECD) and Plan of Action (2003-2008).
  • Contributing to the development of the Draft Child Rights Law.
  • Contributing to the preparation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) reports to be submitted by Jordan on measures adopted to give effect to the rights set forth in the Convention and progress made in the enjoyment of those rights.
  • Coordinating and facilitating the Jordanian Country Study on Disadvantaged Children as part of a World Bank regional study, which assesses the situation of disadvantaged children in the Middle Ease and North Africa (MENA) region.
