In 2002 the National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) conducted a qualitative study, entitled “the Qualitative Research for Identifying Family Priority Problems and Issues” .The study identified the main problems and issues facing Jordanian families, as seen by the families as well as the experts in related fields.

One such problem was violence between spouses, whereby families expressed the need for family counseling services as preventive and supportive measures through which they could deal with their problems. As a result, the NCFA saw the need for conducting a study, with the aim of providing baseline data on family counseling services in Jordan.

Recommendations
The family counseling study produced a number of recommendations that enable the Council and its partners in the field to contribute to the development of family counseling services in Jordan, at the prevention and intervention level, to strengthen the capacity of the relevant practitioners and institutions and to work towards policy change and the development of initiatives and services, based on identifying priority issues for intervention.
