The absence of a national, comprehensive information provider on family affairs prompted the NCFA to develop the NDFA.

The absence of a national information provider on family-related issues, and the lack of well-structured data highlighted the need for the National Database for Family Affairs (NDFA). Although several existing databases cover one or two working sectors, the need became clear for a comprehensive database that covers all family-related working sectors, which is the main task of the Technology and Data Resource Unit (TDRU) of the National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA).

This is of particular significance, since, as noted by field experts, a high percentage of stakeholders are not aware of the human development efforts currently underway, be they legislative reforms, existing national strategies and international commitments or  rendering available indicators and figures relevant to family affairs.

NDFA Objective

One of NCFA’s strategic objectives is to ensure that sustainable, pertinent, accurate and reliable data and information is available, accessible and shared, which, in turn, will allow governmental and non-governmental organizations to carry out timely and informed action that will enhance the quality of life for all Jordanian families.

The NDFA is a fully computerized, comprehensive information portrait of the Jordanian family, created to build more harmonious relations between concerned parties. Such a database is key to the NCFA’s success by enabling it to perform its role as a policy think tank efficiently and effectively. Thus, the NCFA will continue its role in carrying out research and conducting assessments, including pertinent situation analysis.

As part of the NCFA’s participatory work approach, an advisory committee, representing the below organizations,  supervises and provides input on the work of the technical team of the Research and Data Resource Unit.

  • The Ministry of Education (MoE)
  • The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD)
  • Department of Statistics (DoS)
  • Yarmouk University
  • The General Union of Voluntary Societies (GUVS)
  • The National Center for Human Resources Development (NCHRD)
  • The National Information Center (NIC)
  • United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
  • The Queen Zein Al Sharaf Institute for Development (ZENID)
