Research and data resource management is one of the strategic objectives of the National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA). The NCFA Technology and Data Resource Unit (TDRU), the Policies and Planning Unit, the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit (MEU) and the Childhood Unit (CU) work collectively to fulfill this objective, each within its own framework. The Policy and Planning Unit (PPU) and the Childhood Unit provide the Technology and Data Resource Unit with technical information, indicators, and findings of research and studies to nourish and update the information system and to analyze the collected data to define areas of interest and priority family issues that require further research.

Aims
Providing accurate and up-to-date information in an accessible and sustainable manner is key to NCFA’s success in performing its role as a policy think tank.  Such data and information will allow policy and decision makers from governmental and non-governmental organizations to carry out timely and informed action geared towards enhancing the quality of life for all Jordanian families.
Tasks
The TDRU’s tasks were defined after a series of consultations and research projects conducted by the NCFA in its first working year, 2002, and on the basis of the role and responsibilities assigned to it in its mandate.
Who Will Benefit

The NCFA provides reliable and comprehensive information to all concerned parties, mainly stakeholders in the field of family affairs, such as:

  • Government organizations, including executive and legislative branches of the government.
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • National and international organizations.
  • University faculty members.
  • Jordanian academics and students.
  • Researchers.
  • Other concerned parties.

The shared information includes data that can be accessed for the purpose of research, assessment, and information gap identification, monitoring, evaluating planning and programming services.

Accordingly, and in the absence of up-to-date and comprehensive data on family affairs on a national scale, the NCFA made it a priority to develop the National Database for Family Affairs (NDFA). The NDFA is a comprehensive database on the Jordanian family, consisting of up-to-date, classified, multi-disciplinary and interlinked data on the Jordanian family. It is also the NCFA’s driving force behind the creation of the information center, which would specialize in human and social development issues relevant to the Jordanian family, a vision initiated and supported by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah.

The establishment of the NDFA will allow the NCFA to better coordinate, monitor and evaluate with partners and stakeholders the work of relevant institutions working in the field, and ultimately produce analysis reports on the state of the Jordanian family.
